The 3 to 1 split of the Gospels!

Study:

Recall the 3 to 1 split of the Gospels.

Sky/Heaven:
(Gospel of John)

Eagle
(John)
(north; God)
Earth:
(Synoptic Gospels)
Calf
(Mark)
(west; sacri-fice/servant)

Lion
(Matthew)
(east; king)

Man
(Luke)
(south; man)

Well, pictures of this 3 to 1 split occur in a number of other places in the Bible. Our first picture occurs in the Book of Daniel.

"Therefore because the king’s commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flame of the fire slew those men that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed–nego. And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed–nego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonied, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king. He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God." Daniel 3:22-25

So notice that there were three "earthly" men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, in the furnace and then a fourth heavenly being appears amongst them.

The next picture is much less clear, in that even though there is a noticeable 3 to 1 split, the one is not noticeably more "heavenly" than the three. Either I am missing something or the type isn't always as clear in some cases compared to others.

"And Noah went in, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him, into the ark, because of the waters of the flood." Genesis 7:7

So notice that there are Noah's three sons and then there is Noah. This is connected with Daniel in that there is some testing happening... Is God trustworthy?... and perhaps a closing of probation! Definitely, both have end-time themes... persecution, the destruction of the world, close of probation.

The last picture is perhaps the most meaningful to us, as it applies to those living now, and occurs in the Book of Revelation.

"And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters. And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication. And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name. Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them." Revelation 14:6-13

"And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory. And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies." Revelation 18:1-3

Clearly, we have three angels separated from a fourth, by intervening material, and yet connected to that fourth through the message that "Babylon ... is fallen, is fallen..."

Summarizing:

So, what does this all mean?

Based on what I know from Daniel and Revelation... the "earthly" three represent those sealed by God (the Three or Trinity) with his Law/character, at the center of which is the Sabbath or triple-7 of Creation. These three become four if they are also sealed with God's Holy Spirit... with Latter Rain power... and essentially married to Christ. This is what we see taking place in Revelation 7, the sealing of the 144,000 with the "the seal of the living God." This final sealing, just prior to the close of probation, prepares the 144,000 to go through the 7 Last Plagues, of which Daniel 3's fiery furnace and Noah's flood are types.
