The last Adam & Eve

Study:

"And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit." 1 Corinthians 15:45

The last Adam is Christ! Does Christ have his Eve? Of course! The church, His bride! Notice the parallel between the first Adam and the Last.

"And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man." Genesis 2:21,22

"When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost. ... But when they [the soldiers] came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, ... one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water. John 19:30-34

So both Adam and Christ fall asleep and have something taken from their side. But was the church made from this water and blood? Figuratively, yes! Mankind is naturally dead through sin. Without a change in man's situation, there can be no church or bride for Christ. Christ died to change this. His death made two necessary processes possible: Justification and Sanctification. Justification removes the eternal consequences of our sins, i.e. eternal death, and is represented by the blood. Sanctification recreates us through the work of the Holy Spirit and is represented by the water, a symbol of the Spirit. Thus the church is made of Christ's blood and water, Justification and Sanctification!

How do we know that the church is Eve? Because the imagery used for the church in Revelation parallels that used for Eve. Recall the Fall.

"Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?" Genesis 3:1

"And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel." Genesis 3:15

So notice the Fall involves a woman, a serpent, and a seed. Now notice Revelation 12.

"And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood." Revelation 12:15

"And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ." Revelation 12:17

So Revelation has the same three actors as the Fall: the woman, the serpent, and the seed (in the form of the remnant of the seed). Did you notice the serpent's attempt to deceive the church/woman paralleling his attack on Eve in Eden? "And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood." These parallels are not a coincidence but are done purposefully. The church is a another Eve!

Important points to take away:

  1. Christ is the last Adam,
  2. the church is His Eve,
  3. at the cross, another "Creation" occurs, and the church is made from Christ's side, and
  4. during the 1260 days in the wilderness, the church "Falls."
