Life of Jezebel

Study:

One and only one woman's name is ever mentioned in the book of Revelation:

"Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols." Revelation 2:20

Jezebel! This is the woman of Revelation chapters 12, 13, and 17, amongst others. How can this be the pure woman of Revelation 12? you may ask. How can parents name their daughters Isabel when it is the same as Jezebel? Because Jezebel means "chaste!" (Check out the quotes in this blog, defining this name.) The woman of Revelation 12 is Jezebel, "chaste." But the woman changes. She follows the life path of the Old Testament Jezebel. And what is that? Here are the steps.

  1. She starts as Jezebel, chaste and unmarried, just as her name means, then...
  2. she becomes married when she marries a king:

"And in the thirty and eighth year of Asa king of Judah began Ahab the son of Omri to reign over Israel ... And Ahab the son of Omri ... he took to wife Jezebel..." 1 Kings 16:29-31

    then...
  3. she becomes widowed but still in power when her husband dies and her sons become king in turn:

"...a certain man drew a bow at a venture, and smote the king of Israel between the joints of the harness: ... and the king was stayed up in his chariot against the Syrians, and died at even:..." 1 Kings 22:34,35

"So Ahab slept with his fathers; and Ahaziah his son reigned in his stead." 1 Kings 22:40

"So he [Ahaziah] died according to the word of the Lord which Elijah had spoken. And Jehoram reigned in his stead ... because he had no son." 2 Kings 1:17

"Now Jehoram the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria..." 2 Kings 3:1

    then finally...
  4. she is killed and eaten by dogs:

"And when Jehu was come to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it; and she painted her face, and tired her head, and looked out at a window. And as Jehu entered in at the gate, she said, Had Zimri peace, who slew his master? And he lifted up his face to the window, and said, Who is on my side? who? And there looked out to him two or three eunuchs. And he said, Throw her down. So they threw her down: and some of her blood was sprinkled on the wall, and on the horses: and he trode her under foot. And when he was come in, he did eat and drink, and said, Go, see now this cursed woman, and bury her: for she is a king’s daughter. And they went to bury her: but they found no more of her than the skull, and the feet, and the palms of her hands. Wherefore they came again, and told him. And he said, This is the word of the Lord, which he spake by his servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, In the portion of Jezreel shall dogs eat the flesh of Jezebel:..." (2 King 9:30-37)

The woman of Revelation follows these same 4 steps.

Jezebel's life
1. unmarried/chaste
2. married/queen

-. king dies

3. widowed/queen mother
    (controls sons)

4. eaten by dogs

Woman of Revelation
pure woman of Rev. 12
sea beast of Rev. 13
"And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death;..." Rev. 13:3
woman on a scarlet beast
of Rev. 17
"...the ten horns ... upon the beast, these ... shall eat her flesh..." Rev. 17:16

Notes:

"2. married/queen ... sea beast of Rev. 13": As shown elsewhere, the sea beast is the little horn of Daniel 7, a church-state union. Thus, in the symbols of Revelation, the sea beast should be a beast (kingdom/king) and a woman (church). Where is the woman? Biblical marriage has two properties: (1) the two are one (Genesis 2:24); and (2) the man is head of the woman (1 Corinthians 11:3). By these two properties, there is only one "flesh" and the beast is head or visible.

"3. widowed/queen mother (controls sons) ... woman on scarlet beast of Rev. 17": The woman rides the beast and thus controls it. Both woman and beast are visible as this is not a marriage/queen-king relationship but a mother-son/queen mother-king relationship.

"4. eaten by dogs ... etc.": The beast is a Roman power and thus so are the horns. But by Psalms 22 the Romans, who crucified Christ, are dogs. Thus the woman is eaten by dogs.

"For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet. ... They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture. But be not thou far from me, O Lord: O my strength, haste thee to help me. Deliver my soul from the sword; my darling from the power of the dog." Psalms 22:16-20

So indeed the women of Revelation are all the same woman, that is the whorish woman of Revelation 17 is the pure woman of Revelation 12, fallen!
