Key is Kingdom

 Study:

This study just consists of a number of interlocking texts starting with Revelation 3:7, Christ's introduction to the church of Philadelphia.

And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth; Revelation 3:7

"...he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth" references Isaiah 22:22.

...and I will commit thy government into his hand: ... And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open. ... and he shall be for a glorious throne to his father’s house. Isaiah 22:21-23

Since Revelation 3:7 makes Isaiah 22:22 a messianic prophecy, it is logical to have "...I lay upon his shoulder..." reference another messianic prophecy, Isaiah 9:6.

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this. Isaiah 9:6,7

So "the key" references "a kingdom" which Isaiah 9:7 says is to be "established with judgment." But, is this not just the judgment scene recorded in Daniel 7?

I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire. A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened. ... I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed. Daniel 7:9,10,13,14

A Key is a Kingdom through Judgment!
